Here is the browser section from fjwa.ini set up for Firefox:

[BROWSER]
install=1
startupurl=http://www.vzones.com
installurl=http://www.vzones.com/download.htm
VZones="C:\Program Files\VZones\vzones.exe"
program="C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe"
ddename=firefox

After you change that section in your fjwa.ini file, you should close all of your VZones windows and probably close and reopen the launcher; otherwise VZones probably thinks your default browser is still IE or Netscape.

Jeeze, using a launcher with firefox<shakes head>

One click to log in, much simpler then the launcher:-p

Personally, I would NOT bookmark a URL containing an unencrypted password; however, if your comfort level is different than mine, it does work just fine.

Just to chime in w/ a bit of additional info for those setting up for the first time: W/ the initial launch of VZ, FF will download the subfusion.cgi file and then popup a box asking what to do w/ it. You select the radio button for "open with.." and browse to this path: "C:\Program Files\VZones\vzmult.exe" then "OK" twice; when you're back at the main popup, put a check in the box near the bottom that states something to the effect of, "always do this action." At which point, your avie will be logged IW after clicking "OK." The "browser not running" error will usually either be from FF not being set as default or a typo in the fjwa.ini settings.

Mods: May wanna combine this w/ the fjwa.ini instructions and make a sticky. ;)

The installation of the client creates a setting in the windows registry that a .vz file has to open with the vzmult.exe porgram in the VZones folder. This is not browser related but OS related.
Some browsers can't open through the client since the ddename of this browser can not be found, in this occasion the user will get the browser not running message. Clicking yes will open the browser which is set in the fjwa.ini file in the 'program=' line. Lately many "great thinking" ISP's have created their own browser which comes with their installation software, most of these browsers will result in the browser not found error.
Even if the browser you want to open with the client is NOT your default browser but IS set in the fjwa.ini correctly it will open THIS browser and not the default one. When the client loads it loads the settings from the fjwa.ini file and will use those settings.

Thanx for the clarification regarding the browser error. I knew that an association was created for the *.vz file, but had thought that applied only to MSIE since FF did, indeed, give me the choice of either setting a helper app for that file (in the manner described in my post) or saving it to disk. I just assumed that if I had to set this up first time, then the same would apply to anyone else. In the perspective of the launcher, it looked to me that it would launch whatever browser was set as default upon request to log i/w (second click) and if that browser didn't match that set in the fjwa.ini, then you'd get the error. Clicking 'yes' would then launch whatever browser is specified (again, providing that the ddename is known and there's no typoes [i.e. not enclosing the path after the 'program=' in quotes if using the long filenames]). But please feel free to correct me if I'm missing part of the whole.;)

I changed to Netscape and I'm having a whole lotta trouble with the browser settings... Here's what I have on fjwa.ini:

[BROWSER]
install=1
startupurl=http://www.vzones.com
installurl=http://www.vzones.com/download.htm
VZones="C:\Programas\VZones\vzones.exe"
program="C:\Programas\Netscape\Netscape\Netscp.exe"
ddename=netscape

On the ddename part i've tried netscape, Netscape, Netscp...
Everytime I launch a nH window it asks me if i want to open my browser, even if it's already open...
I tried closing browser, nH, launcher... I rebooted... And it still does that...
What am I missing here? I have used netscape with nH before so vzshrug
Little help... anyone?

Check if the path is ok, standard the path is C:\Program Files\................ , however with a different language version it might be different as you descibed.

If that is ok then change:
ddename=netscape to ddename=netscape6

This works for me

I want to back to explorer,what do i enter in fjwa.ini??

No one should ever go back to Explorer.

But if one feels they must, in the section called

[BROWSER]

Change the program= and ddename= lines to:

program="C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe"
ddename=iexplore

Check your *own* computer to verify the path in the program= line. That is the normal name for the IE directory on WinXP, but may or may not be the same on everyone's computer.

Thank you Marky & Madness, you have given some valuable clues as far as how to resolve a similar issue I was having. The browser selection is OS dependent, so no matter what I put in the fjwa it was not finding the desired one. I tried to then edit the registry, but I could not adjust the value. I'm either experiencing the restriction of some Windows setting (I use limited accts, but logged into the admin for this one) or perhaps a 3rd party setting. At any rate, thanks again for illustrating the client's behavior with browsers & Windows.

Marky thanks for all your - as usual - excellent advice on this subject. I had downloaded Firefox but did not install it as I was unsure how it would react with the VZ files. I hope I can now change browsers safely :)

a new browser has arrived .... Google Chrome

it's still in beta but what I can see and all the options on it ... it is great. Faster then any other browser.

The only problem is that the beta installs in the users directory which makes the string for the program line in the fjwa.ini file to long.
I created a workaround to make it work with the VZones client ;)

Create a map Google on the C:\ drive
Copy the Chrome folder from the users C:\documents and settings\{user}\local settings\Application Data\Google to the C:\Google folder
change the settings in fjwa.ini to

[BROWSER]
install=1
startupurl=
instalurl=
VZones=
program = "C:\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exe"
ddename = chrome

Thanks, Marky! Are we stuck with the "browser not running" message and clicking "yes" every time we click on an url iw?

So far I really like Chrome. But between the "browser not running" message" and missing my Firefox extension, I'm not sure I'll if it'll be my main browser just yet.

This is how Chrome installed when it just came out. I have no idea if they've made any changes. The path was to long to go from the fjwa to the browser which the only solution was to move the Chrome to a folder with a short path.
Using a browser or not should not have any effect on loading the VZ client (and avie). Has anything else been changed on your computer since the VZ client worked for the last time?

Hello all :)

I too am getting the fjwa.ini message, and I see where you say what to do to correct the problem, however, before fixing the problem, I need to first find this file on my computer. I searched my HD and windiws found one fjwa file. But when I open it, I don't see lines I'm suppose to change to fix the problem vzshrug :confused:
